Maritana builds nest for Black Swan operations

By JC Villarba

Maritana Minerals (ASX:MRT) has secured a construction camp and permanent accommodation facilities to support development of its Black Swan Processing Hub in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

Quick Camps will supply a 57-room temporary camp at Black Swan, including a kitchen and amenities, to be operational from early August for about 12 months.

Maritana has also procured kitchen and accommodation units from ATCO Structures & Logistics for a 60-room permanent camp at Black Swan, scalable to 120 rooms. The long-lead modules are due in November.

CEO Grant Haywood says securing accommodation early is a ‘key enabler’ for the project’s development.

“The Quick Camps fly-camp allows construction to commence on schedule, while the ATCO modules lock away long lead items for our permanent camp ahead of the contractor ramp-up,” Haywood says.

Maritana is assessing additional modules and working with a preferred construction provider to have the permanent camp operational by early January 2027, aligning with the expected contractor ramp-up.

In central Kalgoorlie, the company has bought a property with development approval for a 50-room camp to support mining operations near Kalgoorlie, including Boorara and Coote/Crake.

“The Kalgoorlie property purchase gives Maritana a permanent accommodation base in the heart of the Goldfields to support our exploration activities and the planned ramp-up of mining operations at Boorara and Coote/Crake,” Haywood adds.

Black Swan is about 50km northeast of Kalgoorlie, with most supporting operations within a 50km radius.

MRT’s accommodation strategy reflects the hub-and-spoke operating model for the processing hub, with permanent camps at both locations reducing travel times.

A tender process for the Kalgoorlie camp will commence shortly, with development expected in early 2027. Temporary accommodation is already secured for ongoing resource drilling and the planned mining ramp-up in Q1 2027.

Maritana Minerals is an emerging gold producer advancing a portfolio of assets across Western Australia’s Goldfields, anchored by the refurbished Black Swan Processing Hub.
